About The Role

To perform this job successfully, the individual is required to perform, but not limited to: the
preparation of quality tissue samples for histopathologic evaluation; identification of tissue
samples for proper embedding orientation; tissue processing for paraffin and frozen tissue
samples; microtomy skills for routine paraffin, and frozen tissue samples; preparation of
reagents and the performance of routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E), non-routine
histochemical staining and manual/automated immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures;
performs quality control procedures on all prepared microscope slides; knowledge of the use
and maintenance of equipment used for the preparation of tissue samples and the ability to
maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.

 

What You'll Do Here

  • Maintains and documents the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Maintains a safe, clean and orderly laboratory environment
  • Performs paraffin tissue processing
  • Identifies required tissue sample orientation and performs paraffin embedding procedures
  • Uses microtomy skills in the preparation of routine (paraffin embedded) microscopic slides according to standard operating procedures and/or required by study protocols
  • Performs routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining as well as cover slipping microscopic slides
  • Troubleshoots equipment and/or operation failures and takes appropriate actions to keep interruptions to a minimum
  • Analyzes raw data collection and solves for deviation in standard operating procedures (SOP) and/or protocol requirements
  • Disposition of hazardous chemical, generation of the hazardous chemical lab pack and data entry to the laboratory hazardous chemical records
  • Ordering of warehouse supplies and data entry to laboratory inventory records may be assigned

What You'll Need To Succeed

  • Bachelor of Science degree (BS). Associate's degree (AA), with equivalent experience and training.
  • Work experience includes, but not limited to at least 1 + years laboratory experience and/or training HT (ASCP) eligible within one year of employment
  • Identification of tissue organs and/or tissue samples; microtomy skills and routine hematoxylin and eosin staining preferred Handles and disposes biological and/or chemical substances and wastes in accordance with applicable policies and procedures
  • Wears appropriate PPE in accordance with policies and procedures. PPE may include, but is not limited to: N-95 respirator, face mask, safety glasses, goggles, face shield, gloves, and lab coat

What We Offer

The hourly pay range estimated for this position is $22 - $29. Please note that salary rates vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, prior relevant experience, skills, education, certification, location as well as internal equity and market data
