About the Role:

Global News is looking for an exceptional Political Journalist (Senior Digital Broadcast Journalist) based in Ottawa to report for the network's award-winning flagship news program Global National. The successful candidate has a proven record of breaking major stories, building a network of sources and contacts, and delivering to tight deadlines with strong editorial judgement. They have a passion for politics, understand how to work quickly and collaboratively to distill complex information into compelling and understandable stories – both from the bureau and in the field. They have a deep understanding of editorial balance in reporting on politics and have a proven record of telling Canadian stories through diverse voices. This position is based in Ottawa, ON and will report to Global National while working under the leadership of the Bureau Chief. This is a Group 5 position under the current collective agreement.

You'll be working on things like:

• Pitching, developing, and executing daily assignments for the network and national newscast
• Leveraging a network of sources to deliver breaking news and pitch enterprise and investigative stories in the public interest
• Seeking out reflective, compelling, and diverse voices to profile in news coverage
• Reporting live for Global News network of affiliate television and radio platforms including the weekly flagship political show The West Block
• Executing political coverage to the highest standard for Parliamentary news events such as budgets, political conventions, elections, etc.
• Participating in editorial meetings, fostering an environment of collaboration, creativity, debate and positive feedback
• Working with a variety of national and network stakeholders to put Global News reporting at the top of the national conversation
• Working collaboratively with team of online journalists and write directly for digital platforms as required

Skills and experience you will bring:

• Diploma/Degree in Journalism/Broadcasting or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 5 years of experience political reporting for a daily television news program
• Proven track record of impeccable storytelling, production skills, and editorial judgment, and making fast decisions in a high-pressure environment
• Proven experience in diverse and inclusive storytelling
• In-depth knowledge of politics and current affairs across the country
• A role model who sets high editorial and ethical standards and represents best journalistic practices
• Excellent communication, organizational and multitasking skills
• Ability to adapt to ever-changing workflows and technologies
• An amazing attitude that will inspire, engage and motivate colleagues
• French language skills will be considered an asset
