Newsroom Manager – Saskatoon

Oversee day-to-day operation of the Global Saskatoon newsroom
Work closely with the Saskatchewan Managing Editor and local Assignment Editor to ensure assignments align with our news strategy and resources
Oversee Saskatoon’s daily editorial agenda for broadcast and online, placing an emphasis on producing original, enterprise content
Develop and maintain a high standard of news production that includes effective writing, editing, and shooting
Vet reporter scripts and online content as required
Work with staff to develop skills and provide regular performance reviews
Provide leadership and guidance to newsroom staff
Work with leadership teams in Saskatoon & Regina to coordinate resources, human and technical, for all special projects and requests
Ensure essential communication from reporters to Managing Editor, Executive Producer, producers, and online
Create a positive, productive environment to ensure local news team is engaged and productive
Communicate company vision to news team to assure values are aligned
Oversee various operational requirements pertaining to performance, hiring, discipline, scheduling and timesheets
Assist Saskatchewan News Director/Station Manager with station operations
Work with the marketing department and Executive Producer to ensure proper promotion of daily news coverage and community initiatives
Facilitate community partnerships
Work with local sales team to support revenue opportunities
Deal with public complaints/concerns
Other duties as required
What We Need From You:
An extensive background in news management role. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in managing both broadcast and digital news platforms.

Candidates should have 5 – 8 years’ experience in a newsroom and 3 – 5 of those in a supervisory/leadership role
Leadership to ensure the most compelling content is created to build viewership both on air and online and creating a positive, productive work environment where employees are engaged and fulfilled
A post-secondary degree in broadcast journalism or a related field
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
A track record of creative storytelling
Must be able to adapt under pressure and be able to work in a fast-paced environment
Working knowledge of digital tools and technologies, including all social media and related applications.
Must be able to handle the demands and pressure of multiple, daily deadlines for online and broadcast
Working knowledge of the Saskatoon news market
A valid driver’s license
