Immigrant Services Calgary is looking for a part-time (22.5 hours a week) Student Access Facilitator/ Volunteer Trainer to provide assistance for students with their homework and organization. The Student Access Facilitator/Volunteer Trainer will be required to collaborate with the clients, the program coordinator and community partners to facilitate appropriate homework supports. Additionally, the Student Access Facilitator/Volunteer Trainer will be required to recruit, organize training and supervise volunteer tutors for the Homework Club.

Program Planning and Delivery

• Supervise, interact and motivate program participants and volunteer tutors program
• Develop rapport with program participants and establish a fun learning environment
• Provide homework and learner support to program participants
• Take the lead in organizing, planning and implementing recreational and educational activities for program participants
• Ensure the safe supervision of program participants at all times
• Oversee the preparation and serving of nutritional snacks to program participants
• Maintain a clean and organized program space
• Conduct outreach and recruit volunteer tutors in Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts

Program Monitoring and Evaluation

• Monitor program expenses and purchases, submit receipts and expense forms as required
• Complete monthly reporting of program activities
• Administer/collect program evaluation and relevant data for reporting
• Keep daily attendance records of program participants
• Complete intake and registration forms for both children and parents
• Ensure that client files are accurate and up to date according to pre-school license regulations
• Data Entry and any administrative task as required

Outreach and Support

• Manage  conflict between program participants and/or volunteers/staff in an appropriate manner
• Conduct outreach and retention activities to ensure adequate program attendance and participation
• Liaise with parents, teachers, other ISC staff and partner organizations and needed around meeting community needs
• Participate in training sessions and staff meeting as required

Other Duties:

• Adhere to ISC Police and Procedure and ISC and Mosaic Centre Standards of Practice, especially those concerning confidentiality and ethics
• Attend weekly planning meetings with Homework Club Team, monthly meeting of Mosaic Centre staff and all staff meetings
• Document and report any disclosures of abuse to the Mosaic Centre Director
• Inform the Youth and Family Programs Coordinator of families at risk and assist in follow-up (i.e. referrals to counseling and community services)
• Ensure that the work plan is completed
• Other duties as assigned by the Youth and Family Programs Coordinator


• Post-secondary in Child/Youth Studies, Education, Social Work or related educational field or a combination of related background and work experience
• Demonstrate the ability to work with people with learning needs in a professional, empathetic and respectful manner
• Strong organizational skills
• Understanding of and the ability to demonstrate the principles of confidentiality
• Past tutoring experience and asset
• Valid Class 5 Drivers License and reliable vehicle for work
• Cultural competency
• Police Clearance
• Second language is an asset
