PCAS19-089 - Child Welfare Immigration Centre of Excellence - Immigration Specialist (7 Month Contract)
Reporting to the Team Leader, Immigration, the Child Welfare Immigration Centre of Excellence - Immigration Specialist will be responsible for providing support to Child Protection Professionals across Ontario in ensuring that children, youth and families involved with Child Welfare Agencies across Ontario are receiving the necessary supports and guidance in resolving immigration challenges.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide consultation and advice responding to inquiries from CASs in Ontario and other community stakeholders related to immigration challenges
Provide short-term intervention/management of immigration issues for children and families, including foster parents, who are receiving services from Child Welfare Agencies, and former crown wards referring to the CWICE including:
Conducting critical analysis of complex immigration cases to outline the appropriate solutions
Consultation on child protection investigations involving immigration challenges
Advice/support about the intersection of child protection/immigration challenges
Connecting to lawyers, appropriate Federal partners, and referrals to resources in the community
Assistance with citizenship and immigration status documents
Advice and consultation on settlement supports as required
Raise awareness about the significance and scope of immigration issues in the Child Welfare Sector; developing engagement strategies to raise awareness of the CWICE; outreaching with CASs; developing a social media presence and online pathways to enable CASs to access resources
Identify and building priority partnerships to support the ongoing services of the CWICE; work in collaboration with the regional, provincial and federal partners; develop and maintain processes, protocols and/ or memorandums of understanding (MOU) with identified priority partners;
Collect data and facilitate research through the CWICE
Implement process improvement strategies to provide continuous improvement
Maintain ongoing communication with referring workers, partners, government, government stakeholders, OACAS and others.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within the program, across disciplines, and with external stakeholders
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships and engage effectively with all levels within the organization and externally with Provincial and Federal stakeholders
Sound judgment in making decisions about the intervention required.
Knowledge of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

Demonstrated excellent documentation skills
Strong presentation skills
Strong time management and organizational skills
Proficiency in French language and other languages is an asset
QUALIFICATIONS
BSW or equivalent post-secondary degree in human services field; or other education and qualifications together with experience in immigration/child welfare that constitute adequate and suitable preparation for the position
Four to five years of relevant immigration/child welfare experience valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License and daily access to a vehicle is required
HOURS OF WORK: 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, however working hours may vary and applicants must be flexible to work outside of standard office hours
HOURLY RATE: $38.62 - $50.12
