With operations in full gear, the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) provides a consistent and collaborative response to operational needs at the Calgary International Airport. The IOC is the “heart” of YYC’s operations – one team creating significant enhancements and a seamless, customer-focused response to all operational activities both in the terminal and on the airfield. WHAT YOU WILL DO

As the Manager, Operations – Airports, you will be the principle operational designee making decisions on how we operate day-of 24/7/365 in a manner that complies with applicable laws and the Authority’s risk profile. Reporting to the General Manager, Integrated Operations Center, you will have to operate at every level of the business; feeling at ease briefing the Executive leaders on incidents as well as engaging with various external agencies including the intelligence services, government departments and foreign agencies. This is a high-profile management position demanding sound judgement in leading operations to deliver excellent service and safe continuity of business.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Critical decision maker on operational issues and key link with Business Recovery and Crisis Management teams
  • Responsible for day-to-day performance across the airport
  • Lead an IOC team and provide guidance to other teams responsible for day-of operational delivery
  • Be a champion of culture, lead by example, and exemplify behavior conducive of a strong team environment
  • Actively deliver significant benefit as a guest and stakeholder ambassador influencing across and upwards
  • Act as upper management’s representation and provides direction in dealing with policy/ procedure violations that impact day-of operations
  • Foster an attitude of team spirit that extends across all levels and functions, promote our values in support of our YYC culture
  • Effectively navigate and build key stakeholder relationships
  • Responsible for capacity management program that works towards efficient operations delivery in all situations such as departure metering, winter events, irregular operations etc
  • Responsible for creation, amendment and cancellation of NOTAMs relative to day-of operations
  • Responsible for after-hours permit processing for various projects across the terminal
  • Develop and implement meaningful metrics to track daily performance that guides decision making
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to provide responses to events that impact guest experience including service disruptions, peak hour issues, weather, etc. Aligning the needs of the operation with the needs of the guest and the organization’s strategic plan
  • Engage in media activity, acting as the spokesperson for the airport if and when required
  • Lead and provide initial guidance to airport community during irregular operations or emergency events and understand when escalation to a Subject Matter Expert (SME) leader is necessary.
  • Responsible for making decisions in collaboration with the Senior Security, Safety and Environment Official day-of 24/7/365, and should:
    • A deep understanding of respective legislations and how they operationally translate
    • Deliver the plan in response to events
    • Lead the responsible contracted service provider or employees in response to security, safety or environment threats
    • Respond and decide on response to low-moderate events
    • Authorize resource deployment when required
  • Works in partnership with various internal and external stakeholder groups with a focus on comprehensive guest satisfaction and operational excellence.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Post-secondary education with a Certificate or Diploma in Aviation Management or other relevant field, or accreditation by the International Association of Airport Executives (IAAE)
  • 5+ years’ experience working within an airport or airline operations center environment
  • 2 years’ minimum experience as a people leader and influencer with demonstrated skills in leading a matrix unionized team
  • Proven ability to deal with complex issues involving multiple priorities
  • Proven history of being able to utilize critical thinking skills to rationalize appropriate decisions in a timely manner
  • Good working knowledge of relevant federal, provincial and municipal legislation
  • Strong team player who appreciates and encourages cross divisional problem solving, thrives in a collegial atmosphere, and prefers open and productive discussions
  • Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines while adapting to changing priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across different levels in an organization, as well as with a variety of external partners
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
